Each new song from Minneapolis’ Poolboy is a masterclass in widescreen indie...the band has honed in on an auteur-style approach, crafting each new song with the delicate ears of the detail-obsessed.

Biography

Poolboy is an alternative/indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their music deploys energetic pop and rock soundscapes to investigate interior life through melodic hooks and unique song structures.

They formed in early 2015 and released a self-titled, self-produced EP in February of 2016, which Andrea Swenson of The Current called, “An impressive debut.” In 2017, they were named City Pages' Best New Band. Throughout their history, Poolboy has headlined at many of the Twin Cities' most exciting venues, including: First Avenue - 7th Street Entry, The Turf Club, Mortimer's and Icehouse. Their tracks have been featured on 89.3 The Current, The Local Show and KFAI radio.

In August of 2018 Poolboy released the critically praised “Double Goer” EP, an undulating and introspective five track album. The single “Bad Apples” was the 89.3 The Current’s "Song of the Day” on July 6, 2018. In 2021, Poolboy released the “Good Orchard” EP, which represented a course change for the alternative group exploring themes of existential fatigue, intimacy, and personal growth through dynamic lyricism placed within a vibrant and melodic soundscape. Poolboy continued to hone their pop-sensible aesthetic and commitment to sonic and lyrical depth for their newest release, the five-song EP “Year of the Weasel.”

Debut LP “Persona” OUT NOW!

Minneapolis-based indie pop-rock band Poolboy returns with their highly anticipated debut album, Persona. Produced by Con Davison (Bad Bad Hats, Keep for Cheap) and mastered by Huntley Miller (Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso), the album was recorded at Honeytone Studios in Neenah, WI, with assistance from Patrick Boland.

Persona is a journey through the mirrored hallways of the Self and the masks we present both publicly and privately, blending alternative pop rock with layered lyrical depth and hook-laden melodies. The album's singles, including "Campfire," "Have You Ever Wondered?," "1938," and "The Matter," showcase Poolboy’s maturing sound, which explores a variety of instrumentations and stretches their genre.

Persona was released on August 30, 2024 and is available now on all streaming platforms.

Year of the Weasel

Poolboy released the five-song EP “Year of the Weasel” (YOTW) in October 2022. YOTW reveals an evolved, maturing group of musicians who care deeply about crafting detailed, pleasurable songs and offering emotional resonance to their listeners. YOTW offers the band’s vision of adult life in contemporary America as both meaningless and sacred; joyous and annoying; disgusting and entertaining.

“Year of the Weasel” was engineered, produced, and mixed by Con Davison (Wingman, Aldrich Sounds, Bad Bad Hats) and mastered by Huntley Miller (Bon Iver, Low, Sylvan Esso, The Tallest Man on Earth).

Playing out in a sequence of hallucinogenic undulations, [Double Goer] is not a destination but another precarious moment teetering on the edge of understanding what Poolboy is, and what it may become.
